Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan went through a very difficult time in October 2021 when his son Aryan Khan was arrested in an alleged drug case. While Aryan was later given a clean chit in 2022, the nearly month-long period he spent in prison was extremely stressful for the ‘Chennai Express’ star, who was relentlessly trying to secure his son’s bail.
Shah Rukh Khan persuaded lawyer’s wife to take case
In a recent interview on The Legal Side of Things for Republic TV, Aryan’s lawyer, former Attorney General and senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, revealed how the ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ actor convinced him to take the case.Rohatgi was on holiday in London and initially refused. “I was in the UK on a holiday. Those were COVID times. I got a call from somebody who was close to Mr. Khan that he wants you to argue that case in the Bombay High Court. I refused (saying) that I don’t want to break my holiday. Somehow, Mr. Khan got my number, and he called me, and I told him the same thing… He is a great actor, and he said, ‘Can I speak to your wife?’”The ‘Swades’ actor then spoke to Rohatgi’s wife, saying, “I’m a father,” and asked her not to see the case just as a client matter. Rohatgi shared that his wife persuaded him to take the case.
SRK offered a private jet for urgent travel
Khan’s urgency was clear when he even offered to fly Rohatgi to Mumbai on a private jet. “Mr Khan was gracious enough. He offered me a private jet, which I didn’t take. I am not very fond of small jets. So I flew down to Mumbai,” Rohatgi said.
Shah Rukh Khan stayed in the same hotel with the lawyer
To stay close to the case proceedings, the ‘Raees’ actor checked into the same hotel as Rohatgi. The lawyer shared Shah Rukh’s active involvement, “I found him to be quite keen and intelligent. He had made a lot of notes and points and stuff like that, apart from the lawyers. And he discussed it with me, and then we argued it. It was argued for two half days or three half days or something like that, and finally, the bail was granted. And I promptly went back to England to spend the rest of my holiday. That’s how this thing happened.”
