According to FOX 17, on September 18, a small-engine plane crashed down west of North Carolina’s Iotla Valley Elementary School in North Carolina. This plane had only three passengers, including Brett, and none of them survived, as stated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).“A Cirrus SR22T crashed in a field in Franklin, North Carolina, around 3 p.m. local time on Thursday, Sept. 18. Three people were on board,” the FAA mentioned in their statement to the aforementioned media outlet. They also assured that the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.Further, the data from FlightAware suggests that the Cirrus SR22T aircraft was registered in Brett’s name. Reports add that the plane left Nashville, Tennessee, and crashed in Macon County at around 3 pm on Thursday.

In the wake of his demise, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame shared a social media post that read – “We mourn the untimely loss of Hall of Fame member Brett James (“Jesus Take The Wheel” / “When The Sun Goes Down”), a 2020 inductee who was killed in a small-engine airplane crash on Sept. 18. He was 57.”
Who was Brett James?
Brett James Cornelius was one of the passionate musicians who quit medical school to follow his heart. His first solo album came out in 1995. Also, he wrote for popular singers like Billy Ray Cyrus and Kenny Chesney.He wrote over 300 songs for major labels and had multiple awards in his name. He was recognised by the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020.Though the artist is no more with us, his legacy will live on through his music.
