In a rare turn of events Ashwin Kumar’s ambitious animated mythology film Mahavatar Narsimha has continued its reign at the box office. The film which told the story of Hiranya Kashyap and Bhakt Prahlad released on OTT platforms on 19 September and in the past 6 days it did theatrical business of Rs 40 lakh across Kannada, Telugu and Hindi languages taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 250.75 crore. Usually OTT releases coincide with the end of the theatrical run of movies but Mahavatar Narsimha is turning out to be a special case , where despite being available on OTT platform, fans are still visiting the theaters to witness the magic on the big screen. In Hindi cinema, this last happened with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail, both went on to win National Award for the film. Breaking down the Rs 40 lakh collection, the Kannada version provided Rs 14 lakh while taking the overall collection from Kannada release to Rs 10.07 crore. The Telugu version’s contribution was Rs 10 lakh, taking the overall contribution to Rs 49.3 crore while the Hindi version minted Rs 20 lakh over the last 6 days taking the Hindi contribution to Rs 187.89 crore. With its Hindi collection, the animation film has become the 50th biggest grosser of Hindi Cinema. Mahavatar Narsimha is part of a 7 series Mahavatar Universe, the six other films featuring the other incarnations of Lord Vishnu and they are Mahavatar Parshuram which is slated to be released in 2027. Then there will be Mahavatar Raghunandan which will release in 2029 followed by Mahavatar Dwarkadhish releasing in 2031. Then next in line would be Mahavatar Gokulananda releasing in 203 and the two final parts would be Mahavatar Kalki Part 1 and Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 releasing in 2035 and 2037 respectively.
