Anurag Kashyap says he wouldn’t direct Virat Kohli biopic, recalls Shah Rukh Khan praising Sacred Games, lauds Alia Bhatt for breaking norms

When asked if he would be interested in making a biopic on Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli, Kashyap admitted he would rather not. Speaking to Filmygyan, he said, “I don’t know if I would want to because he’s already a hero to many people, to many children. If I have to do a biopic, I would choose a difficult subject, a person’s life.”He further added, “He is a very beautiful man. I know him personally, and he is a very authentic human being. He is very emotional, he is an incredible person.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s appreciation calls

Kashyap also revealed how Shah Rukh Khan has always reached out personally to appreciate his work. “When he likes something, I get a call. I got a call to Sacred Games and AK vs AK,” the filmmaker recalled.

Salute to Alia Bhatt

The director also praised Alia Bhatt for living life on her own terms and redefining how Bollywood views women actors post-marriage or motherhood. Speaking passionately, he said, “Usne is industry pe, itne saalon ka jo curse hai na, uthaya ki usne bola, ‘Bhaar mein jaye.’ (She lifted the long-standing curse of this industry and said, ‘To hell with it.’) Because she went ahead, and she is living her life the way she wants to, and she is acting. Because of which, I think, a lot of others also found courage. And it’s so important. I am saying, why should marriage, relationship, motherhood, anything, affect an actor’s career? She has broken so many walls. And she is an amazing actress. Salute to her for that.”

Nishaanchi release

After Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Ugly (2013), and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016), Kashyap is back with Nishaanchi, a gritty drama set in early 2000s Uttar Pradesh. The film marks the debut of Balasaheb Thackeray’s grandson Aaishvary Thackeray, who will be seen in a double role as brothers Babloo and Dabloo, whose clashing ideologies drive the narrative.Nishaanchi is scheduled to release in theatres on September 19.
