Anurag Kashyap recently opened up about how Shah Rukh Khan was a star even before he became a superstar. The filmmaker shared an anecdote from their college time where Khan was his senior. Kashyap recalled how the entire college went to watch SRK’s debut film in theaters.
Anurag Kashyap reveals how entire Hansraj College went to watch Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film ‘Deewana’
In an interview with Book My Show, Anurag Kashyap shared that Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film ‘Deewana’, which was released in 1992, witnessed the whole college turning up in a theater. In the candid conversation, Kashyap recalled that since SRK was their senior, the entire college went to watch the film.
He said, “Humne poora theater Amba Theatre Delhi mein book karaya tha aur Shah Rukh Khan ke ‘Deewana’ dekhne gaye the. Aur Shah Rukh ki entry hoti hai gaane pe: ‘Koi na koi chahiye’ (We booked the entire Amba Theater in Delhi and went to watch SRK’s ‘Deewana’).”He added, “Poora Hansraj College gayaa thaa theater mein, aur poorey Hansraj College ne khade hokar ke jab taaliyan aur seeti maar di thi (all the students of Delhi University’s Hansraj College stood up, clapped, and whistled as soon as the song came on the big screen).In the same interview, the director also shared that no one would have heard the song at that time because SRK was their senior as well as the hockey team’s captain, and since he was appearing on the screen for the first time, they wanted to cheer for him.Kashyap concluded by saying, “Hockey captain, basketball, Best Sportsman of the Year, economics topper. What are you talking about? I mean, he didn’t just become such a big superstar like that.”
