After completing two weeks at the box office, Sivakarthikeyan’s much-hyped action thriller Madharaasi is reportedly gearing up for its OTT release.Directed and written by AR Murugadoss, the film is getting mixed reviews from the audiences and is showing low performance at the box office. As reported by OTT Play, the film will premiere on Prime Video.
Story with a psychological twist and the OTT release date
‘Madharaasi’ follows the life of a man grappling with Fregoli delusion, a rare psychological disorder, who gets recruited by the NIA for a high-stakes covert operation. The story unfolds against the backdrop of gun violence and its far-reaching consequences.Sivakarthikeyan leads the film while Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Shabeer Kallarakal, Biju Menon, and Vikranth play pivotal roles. Vidyut’s sharp action sequences and Anirudh Ravichander’s pulsating score received good reviews from the audiences amid the criticisms to it’s storyline. Reportedly the movie will start streaming from on October 3, 2025 onwards.
Box office dip and our verdict
As reported by the Sacnilk website, despite a solid opening with Rs 49 crore in its first week, the film saw collections slip during its second week. It settled at an India net total of Rs 60.28 crore. On September 18, the film managed only 13.05% occupancy in Tamil Nadu, reflecting its slowing theatrical momentum.
Now coming to our official ETimes review, we rated the movie 3.1 stars out of 5 and an excerpt from our review reads, “The behind the scenes work is solid though not striking. Editor Sreekar Prasad never lets the pace dip; in fact, in some of the action scenes, he even speeds it up a little too much. The stunt choreography by Kevin Kumar packs a punch in places but there are times when they seem hyper-edited to make them feel kinetic. Even Anirudh, who usually delivers in energetic fashion, surprisingly, contributes with just a functional score and not-so-catchy songs.”
