'I am not ashamed of my decision': R Madhavan once revealed his most expensive purchase and it's not a bungalow, luxury cars or diamonds
R Madhavan revealed his most extravagant purchase was a small yacht he keeps in Dubai. He also discussed why Indian actors are cautious about taking risks due to the lack of residuals, unlike Hollywood. Madhavan emphasized the importance of diversifying income sources, highlighting how actors are now investing in ventures like VFX and startups for financial security.

R Madhavan once opened up about his most extravagant purchase. In an earlier chat with Curly Tales, he revealed that the priciest thing he had ever bought was a yacht. Contrary to reports, it wasn’t a huge 75-foot luxury yacht in the Caribbean—it was just a small boat. Still, he called it his biggest indulgence and said he was not at all ashamed of the decision. He added that he keeps it in Dubai.

Why Indian actors are cautious

In another interview, Madhavan spoke about why Indian actors are often hesitant to take risks in their careers—the lack of residuals in Bollywood. In a chat with The Indian Express, the Tanu Weds Manu star explained that Hollywood actors are more willing to experiment in roles because they often earn ongoing income from their biggest hits. The absence of such residuals makes Indian stars more cautious. He said, “There’s a famous story that Mr Amrish Puri is still getting residuals for the Steven Spielberg movie that he did. If I were a Hollywood actor, two or three films would be enough – maybe 3 Idiots, Rang De Basanti, and Tanu Weds Manu – to feed the rest of my generation if they live sensibly.”

Diversifying income sources

In an interview with Akshay Rathi, the Alai Payuthey star, who owns a yacht and lives in Dubai, highlighted the importance for actors of having a diverse portfolio and not relying solely on their acting career for financial security. “The thing is, if you want to follow the kind of career that you want in the movies, you need to have financial security. At one point, it was an investment in real estate. It was a no-brainer,” he added. He also added that today, financially savvy stars are investing in other ventures—such as VFX, cosmetic and beauty startups, and production—to earn additional income alongside their acting careers.According to Jagran English, Madhavan’s net worth is an impressive Rs 115 crore. He was last seen in the Netflix romantic drama Aap Jaisa Koi opposite Fatima Sana Shaikh and will next appear in De De Pyaar De 2 and the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar.
