After Dhyan Sreenivasan’s ‘Thira’, director-actor-singer Vineeth Sreenivasan has returned to the thriller genre with ‘Karam’. As the film hits theatres, social media is abuzz with first reactions. While expectations were sky-high, Twitter reviews suggest a divided response.

First impressions: gripping or flat?

Some viewers have found the first half promising and different from Vineeth’s usual style. One user tweeted, “#Karam Gripping, Engaging & Fast paced First half. Interval punch was nice. Not a usual typical #VineethSreenivasan style film, completely different tone .” Another echoed the excitement, “Thira level stage setting Solid first half #Karam .”On the other hand, several viewers were left underwhelmed. One comment read, “#Karam Okayish first half. While the technical aspects are solid, the screenplay isn’t that engaging. Hoping for better in the second half.” Another added, “Below par so far… need an excellent second half to cover up. Technical department is solid.”

Technical craft shines

Across the board, audiences agreed on one aspect: the technical finesse. The visuals, locations, and overall making style drew unanimous praise. A user wrote, “#Karam First Half – Technically rich, but everything else feels very mid. At best, just average till now.” Another pointed out, “Technically sound with good craft & Decent Making from #VineethSreenivasan! But the storytelling feels flat. Screenplay isn’t engaging and there’s a clear lack of emotional connect.

Language of mixed emotions

Some reactions also came in Malayalam, highlighting the emotional disconnect. #Interval #Karam.” (The movie has some touch of ‘Thira’, but the script is weak.”)Another review reads, “#Karam Below-par first half, with its locations and technical aspects being the only positives. The storytelling feels predictable and scattered!”Starring Noble Babu Thomas, Ivan Vukomanovic, Audrey Miriam Henest, Reshma Sebastian, Manoj K. Jayan, Kalabhavan Shajohn, and Baburaj, the film marks another collaboration between Vineeth and writer Noble Babu Thomas. Although it’s too early for a verdict, the initial reviews for ‘Karam’ are mixed.
