Mahesh Bhatt hails Mohit Suri’s 'Saiyaara', says it’s family’s biggest hit: 'Simba's roar has outdone Mufasa's'

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt couldn’t hold back his pride as he spoke about the phenomenal success of Mohit Suri’s ‘Saiyaara’. The romantic drama, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, had received much love from the audiences, especially the GenZ audiences. In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Mahesh Bhatt said with warmth and humour, “It makes me so happy. Simba’s roar has outdone Mufasa’s. Nobody in our family has ever delivered a hit this huge.”Mohit, who is Mahesh Bhatt’s nephew and son of his sister Heena, has always been celebrated for his ability to capture raw romance on screen. But this time, Bhatt feels he has redefined his own boundaries. “I’m proud to see Mohit come out of his mould for Saiyaara. It is refreshingly different from whatever he has made in his entire career, and the film seems to have incredible depth of romance. Intensity is necessary for people to connect with love, and Mohit has put it all out there,” Mahesh Bhatt said.Pride in Mohit, but grounded advice tooWhile the filmmaker lauded Mohit’s creative triumph, he also admitted to keeping him grounded. “He’s my sister’s son, and he’s a completely self-made boy. But I keep giving him the feeling of not having arrived. I remind him that we might make a hit or two, but we will most definitely make flops,” Mahesh Bhatt added.Alia Bhatt’s first taste of failure with ‘Shaandaar’In the same interview, Mahesh Bhatt also opened on his daughter Alia Bhatt’s early career, recalling how the box office failure of ‘Shaandaar’ (2015) deeply affected her. “When Alia had tasted her first failure, which was the film ‘Shaandaar’, it had come after a few hits, so she was shaken to the roots by that. Even though she is a tough girl on the outside, a failure is a failure,” he said.Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt’s previous film ‘Jigra’ also turned out to be an underwhelming film. The actress is set for a massive return with ‘Alpha’.
